Gratitude is the memory of the heart.

Gratitude Across the Lifespan
Our goal is to understand more about the experience of gratitude as we age and the role it plays in our lives. While there are many definitions of gratitude, we want to find out what gratitude means to older adults in order to identify elements of gratitude that are relevant to their health and happiness. One result of the project will be a measure of gratitude that can be easily incorporated into large-scale population-based studies on successful aging. Our hope is that this expands opportunities for research on gratitude in older adults. Gratitude Across the Lifespan is funded by the Templeton Foundation and housed at the University of Michigan.
